Center Transportation

Mobility and access are essential for independent living and transportation is the link that allows access to needed services and activities. As more and more of our seniors are driving less, our senior centers’ transportation department plays a vital role in a senior’s life as it places the senior’s community within reach.

Each month more than a thousand non-medical trips are made by Belmont County Seniors. Our seniors trust our personable and reliable center drivers with their transportation needs.

Transportation is provided to and from local Senior Centers for members 60 years of age and older residing in Belmont County. At the center, they are offered daily nutritious lunches, social interaction and an array of programs to help seniors stay active and engaged. At the centers, seniors are given opportunities to hear presentations on topics important to them and be connected to resources that may be helpful.

Social outings and trips are scheduled on a regular basis. After registering with their local senior center, a senior can review the center’s monthly activity calendar and decide which activities, on what days, they would like to attend. They only need to call their local center to schedule the dates they would like to visit. Our center van drivers will come to their home, pick them up and take them to the center. When the center’s activities are done, our center van drivers will take them home.

In addition, center transportation provides members with opportunities for grocery and retail shopping, dine-outs and mall shopping. Centers occasionally visit other centers for socialization, fun and friendship. Senior centers sometimes schedule pleasure trips outside the county to enjoy locations not typically available to them. These out of county trips are limited but prove enjoyable when scheduled.

SSOBC and it’s senior centers proudly offer the seniors of Belmont County these transportation opportunities so they can continue to maintain active and independent lifestyles.
